Baby's First Christmas

It's amazing how many "baby's first Christmas" things there are. Stockings, hats, onesies, ornaments, wrapping paper, cards, toys...honestly it's a little overwhelming. Wait, a little? I'll re-phrase...it's nuts.

Am I bad parent because I didn't send out keepsake Christmas cards to everyone I've known since college? Am I a Grinch because I didn't get his picture with Santa? Am I memory killer just because I didn't want to even attempt to put up a tree because my two cats that think fake pine needles are the best cat nip ever and inevidbly thrown them up all December and a baby who thinks lights and wires belong in your mouth?

I didn't make him any cookies or fresh mulled cider. I didn't take gift baskets to the neighbors with our love...even though they sent some to me. I didn't even sign Nolan up to be the baby Jesus in the church play.

So, did I ruin his first Christmas by not showering him with gifts or covering our whole house in tinsel? Did I scar him by not getting his picture with a REAL reindeer or baking him his first angel shaped sugar cookie? I think not. I was lazy, frugal and very happy I didn't fill my baby's first Christmas memory card with the scrubbing of plastic tree crap laced cat vomit out of the new carpet.

We spent baby's first Christmas playing with wrapping paper and empty boxes, spending time with all of our families, reading classic holiday books, pressing the buttons of his new toys, eating Grandma Cathy Chex Mix and trying to find times to take a nap within the excitement.

We was exhausted, grumpy and ready to be by himself by the end of all things, but I think we made the best of our baby's first Christmas. And even though he won't remember a thing, I know I will.

Awe :-)

To answer your questions: No. You're awesome. Less stressed mom means happier baby. And how often do we need to see screaming children on Santa's lap before we realize that some kids need to wait a bit before having their picture made with a huge scary red stranger?

I laughed so hard at this. Mainly because your baby's first Christmas mirrored mine. LMAO.
I had full intentions of at least sending out a Christmas card. You know, like last year when I had our cards all ready and addressed with a wedding picture inside each one... and then they didn't get mailed.... and when I finally realized that they didn't get mailed, it was nearly Christmas and I was too embarrassed that some people might get theirs too late. This year, the case was that I had made Charlee a cute non-traditional Christmas tutu (pink and white, with iridescent ornaments hanging from it), so I was bound and determined to take her Christmas photos in that and to make our Christmas card anything BUT red and green with Santa on it. Only... every time I put the tutu on her she screamed. Hmmmm....
Well, we DID go sit on Santa's lap, although it's looking as if he won't be a figure in Charlee's life much (except to say "yes, that's the man that other people believe actually comes down their chimney, even if you don't HAVE a chimney... I know, I think it's dumb too honey..." However, Dad always has a Biker Santa at his motorcycle shop and I was doing the photography for it this year. So of course.... Charlee went. Anyhow, he was a friend of Dad's and she thoroughly enjoyed playing with him. LOL. My weird baby.
Anywhoooo.... are you still in town!? Lady, we have GOT to do something. I'll come to Huntsville, even! Shopping trip??

I think you did a great job with Christmas for Nolan and your family. I would have done the same thing. :) Oh wait, I did minus a baby. lol. I love the pictures! Nolan is just so fun to watch, especially the way he interacts with you and Jason.

Just remember, you are an awesome wife, mom, and friend. Love you!

What's the point of all that b.s. when he can't appreciate it and is not going to remember any of it? I don't remember anything until I was four, and that was only because we went to Disney World. You're the least grinchy person I know. Merry belated Christmas! Love yas!!
